L-Homoserine

L-Homoserine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid where the proximity of its hydroxyl and carboxyl groups allows intramolecular cyclization, precluding its incorporation into proteins. It is primarily used as a research chemical in studying amino acid metabolism, enzyme mechanisms, and as a specific product of cyanogen bromide cleavage in protein sequencing experiments.
