Levofloxacin is the active L-isomer of ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) to block DNA replication. It is widely used in research for studying bacterial infections, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, and efficacy in both in vitro assays and in vivo animal models.
