2-Methoxyestradiol
2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME2; NSC-659853) is a metabolite of estradiol-17β and a novel antimitotic, antiangiogenic agent, binds to tubulin at or near the colchicine site and inhibits the polymerization of tubulin in vitro; suppresses microtubule dynamic instability in living interphase cells with mitotic IC50 of 1.2 uM, inhibits bFGF and VEGF-induced neovascularization and suppresses the growth of human breast carcinoma in mice; also downregulates hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF) at the posttranscriptional level and inhibits HIF-1-induced transcriptional activation of VEGF expression.
