Carbenicillin disodium
Carbenicillin inhibits the cell-wall synthesis (peptidoglycan cross-linking) by inactivating transpeptidase on the inner surface of the bacterial cell membrane. Carbenicillin is a white to slightly yellow, hygroscopic powder soluble in water and in alcohol. Carbenicillin is most effective against gram-negative bacteria but may also have some effect against gram-positive bacteria. (In Vivo) :Carbenicillin (100-400 mg/kg; intramuscular injection every 8 h for 72 h) disodium significantly reduces mortality of neutropenic Pseudomonas-infected rats.
