A potent and selective class IIa HDAC inhibitor with IC50 of 220 nM for maize HD1-A; displays 176-fold selectivity over HD1-B; increases the accumulation of acetylated H3 and H4 histones in MCF-7 cells at 20 uM; promotes neurite growth and arbourisation and protects neurite arbours against neurotoxic insult.
