5-Nitroindole is a mutagenic nitroarene and universal base analog. 5-Nitroindole significantly reduces the cellular adenylate energy charge by decreasing ATP levels and increasing AMP levels. 5-Nitroindole inhibits lipid peroxidation[1][2].
