Background
Galactomannansare polysaccharides composed of a mannose backbone with side groups of galactose. They are used in food industry as stabilizers which increase water viscosity.Galactomannan is a component of the cell wall of the moldAspergillus,and is released during its growth. Therefore, detection of this compound in blood is clinically used to diagnose aspergillosis infections in humans.
