MOTS-c (mouse) is a mitochondrial-derived peptide that modulates pancreatic endocrine function, suppressing insulin in INS-1E beta cells while promoting glucagon in αTC-1 alpha cells. It exhibits anti-apoptotic effects in vitro and, through AMPK activation, counters metabolic dysfunction in diet-induced obesity models in vivo.
