Apelin-13, generated from apelin-36, is an endogenous peptide ligand for the human APJ receptor, a putative receptor protein related to the angiotensin receptor (AT1) . Apelin-13 exerted an acidification-rate-promoting activity in the CHO cells expressing the APJ receptor with a median effective concentration (EC50) value of 0.37 nM.
