Background

BAG family molecular chaperone regulator 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the BAG5 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the BAG1-related protein family. Bag5 is a negative regulator of both Hsp70 and parkin function that sensitizes dopaminergic neurons to injury-induced death and thus promotes neurodegeneration.

Immunogen

A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human BAG5, different from the related mouse sequence by one amino acid, and from the related rat sequence by two amino acids.

Tissue Specificity

Expressed in the brain, heart, liver, skeletal muscle, pancreas and placenta. Isoform 1 is predominant in the brain and spinal cord. Isoform 4 is more abundant in the cerebellum. In the brain, broadly expressed in the amygdala, caudate nucleus, corpus callosum, hippocampus, hypothalamus, substantia nigra, subthalamic nucleus and thalamus. .

Function
