Background

SET and MYND domain-containing protein 3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SMYD3 gene. The International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium mapped the SMYD3 gene to chromosome 1. This gene encodes a histone methyltransferase which functions in RNA polymerase II complexes by an interaction with a specific RNA helicase. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

Function

Histone methyltransferase. Specifically methylates 'Lys- 4' and 'Lys-5' of histone H3, inducing di- and tri-methylation, but not monomethylation. Plays an important role in transcriptional activation as a member of an RNA polymerase complex. Binds DNA containing 5'-CCCTCC-3' or 5'-GAGGGG-3' sequences. .

Storage Conditions

Store at -20℃ for one year from date of receipt. After reconstitution, at 4℃ for one month. It can also be aliquotted and stored frozen at -20℃ for six months. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
