Pyridoxal kinase is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PDXK gene. The protein encoded by this gene phosphorylates vitamin B6, a step required for the conversion of vitamin B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate, an important cofactor in intermediary metabolism. The encoded protein is cytoplasmic and probably acts as a homodimer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined.

E.coli-derived human PDXK recombinant protein (Position: H13-E280). Human PDXK shares 85.4% and 85.1% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat PDXK, respectively.

Downstream effector of TOR signaling pathway involved in osmotic stress response. Could be involved in the control of plant growth and development. Phosphorylates the ribosomal proteins P14, P16 and S6. Functions as a repressor of cell proliferation and required for maintenance of chromosome stability and ploidy levels through the RBR1-E2F pathway.
