Anti-MUC7 Antibody Picoband® (Cy3 Conjugate)

Mucin-7 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MUC7 gene. This gene encodes a small salivary mucin, which is thought to play a role in facilitating the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and to aid in mastication, speech, and swallowing. The central domain of this glycoprotein contains tandem repeats, each composed of 23 amino acids. This antimicrobial protein has antibacterial and antifungal activity. The most common allele contains 6 repeats, and some alleles may be associated with susceptibility to asthma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5' UTR, but encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene.

Expressed in salivary gland tissues and only in those that contain mucous acinar cells (e.g. sublingual and submandibular glands) and not in salivary glands containing only serous acinar cells (e.g. parotid gland).

May function in a protective capacity by promoting the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and aiding in mastication, speech, and swallowing. Binds P.aeruginosa pili.

Store at -20℃ for one year from date of receipt. After reconstitution, at 4℃ for one month. It can also be aliquotted and stored frozen at -20℃ for six months. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
