PEP1 is a bioactive peptide that binds to POPC supported lipid bilayers at low concentrations and induces their lysis at higher concentrations. This makes it a useful tool for studying membrane interactions, peptide-induced bilayer disruption, and mechanisms of lytic activity in both in vitro biophysical and cell-based assays.
