Glucagon is a 29-amino-acid peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic alpha cells, one of the first endocrine cell types to emerge during pancreatic development. It is widely used in diabetes and metabolism research to study hepatic glucose production and counter-regulatory hormone responses in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
