This cell-permeable small molecule is a selective inhibitor of Drp1 GTPase activity, which suppresses mitochondrial fission and ROS production. It has demonstrated protective effects on mitochondrial integrity and cell viability in vitro, and reduces fragmentation and oxidative stress in a Parkinson's disease mouse model.
