This compound is a potent and selective antagonist of the human melanocortin MC4 receptor (Ki = 3.16 nM) . It is used in research to study energy homeostasis and nociception, demonstrated by its ability to increase food intake in rats and modulate hypothalamic Fos expression following central administration in vivo.
