This neuropeptide, Phe-Met-Arg-Phe-NH2 (FMRFamide), is a potent activator of a potassium current in peptidergic neurons (ED50=23 nM) . It colocalizes with neuropeptide Y in certain brain regions, making it a valuable tool for studying neuropeptide signaling and neuromodulation in both in vitro and in vivo models.
