Low serum bilirubin is directly related to diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and other pathological states. However, high bilirubin is indicative of hemolysis, jaundice, Gilbert syndrome, hepatitis, drug toxicity, and possible bile duct obstruction.
