M40 acetate is a potent, non-selective galanin receptor antagonist with Ki values of 1.82 and 5.1 nM at GAL1 and GAL2 receptors, respectively. It is used in neuroscience research to study galanin's role in mood and feeding behavior, having been shown to block galanin-induced food intake and attenuate fluoxetine's effects in vivo.
