CCN2/CTGF protein is a major connective tissue mitochondrial attractant secreted by vascular endothelial cells and promotes chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation. It mediates heparin- and divalent cation-dependent cell adhesion in various cell types, including fibroblasts, myofibroblasts, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells.
