Background
The neuronal nuclear protein (NeuN) is a member of the RNAbinding FOX protein family which is involved in the regulation of alternative splicing of premRNA. NeuN emerges during early embryogenesis in postmitotic neuroblasts and remains in differentiating and terminally differentiated neurons throughout the whole subsequent ontogeny. NeuN localized in nuclei and perinuclear cytoplasm of most of the neurons in the central nervous system of mammals, has been widely used as a marker for postmitotic neurons.<br>
