Aflibercept is a fully humanized recombinant fusion protein that acts as a decoy VEGF receptor and a “trap, ” exhibiting binding affinity for VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PIGF (placental growth factor) . By blocking the binding of these ligands to endogenous VEGF receptors, it inhibits pathological angiogenesis and is used in both ophthalmology and oncology.
