Target Background
The Hsp70 family includes four highly conserved proteins (Hsp70, Hsc70, Grp75, and Grp78) which function as molecular chaperones, in translocation of polypeptides across cell membranes and to cell nuclei, and in proper folding of nascent polypeptide chains. Sorting of proteins by the Hsp70 family relies on a C-terminal tetrapeptide signal, usually KDEL in animal cells, and HDEL in S. cerevisiae.
