Orexin B
Orexin B is a hypothalamic neuropeptide that regulates feeding behavior. This peptide significantly augments food intake in a dose-dependent manner when a bolus was administered intracerebroventricularly. After a 48 hour fast, hypothalamic prepro-orexin mRNA level is up-regulated 2.4. The discovery of Orexins and their receptors may provide a novel molecular basis for understanding the role of the lateral hypothalamic areas in the regulation of energy homeostasis.
