Catalyzes the transformation of the potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT) into the less active form, 5-alpha-androstan-3-alpha,17-beta-diol (3-alpha-diol) . Also has some 20-alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity.
