Inhibins and activins inhibit and activate, respectively, the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland. Inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins appear to oppose the functions of activins.

Aviva Systems Biology INHbC ELISA Kit (Human) (OKDD00341) is based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay methodology. An antibody for INHbC has been pre-coated onto a 96-wellplate (12 x 8 Well Strips) . Standards or test samples are added to the wells, incubated and removed. A biotinylated detector antibody specific for INHbC is added, incubated and removed. Avidin-Peroxidase Conjugate is then added, incubated and unbound conjugate is washed away. An enzymatic reaction is produced through the addition of TMB substrate which is catalyzed by HRP generating a blue color product that changes yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration read by absorbance at 450 nm and is quantitatively proportional to the amount of sample INHbC captured in well.

This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of INHbC. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between INHbC and analogues was observed.
