Isoform 1 may possess glutaredoxin activity as well as thioredoxin reductase activity and induces actin and tubulin polymerization, leading to formation of cell membrane protrusions. Isoform 4 enhances the transcriptional activity of estrogen receptors alpha and beta while isoform 5 enhances the transcriptional activity of the beta receptor only. Isoform 5 also mediates cell death induced by a combination of interferon-beta and retinoic acid.

The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Thioredoxin Reductase 1 (TXNRD1) . Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to Thioredoxin Reductase 1 (TXNRD1) . Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then the mixture of substrate A and B is added to generate glow light emission kinetics. Upon plate development, the intensity of the emitted light is proportional to the Thioredoxin Reductase 1 (TXNRD1) level in the sample or standard.
