Secreted growth factor that induces neurite outgrowth and which is mitogenic for fibroblasts, epithelial, and endothelial cells (PubMed:1550956) . Binds anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) which induces MAPK pathway activation, an important step in the anti-apoptotic signaling of PTN and regulation of cell proliferation. Binds to cell-surface target proteins via their chondroitin sulfate groups. Down-regulates PTPRZ1 activity.

The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Pleiotrophin (PTN) . Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to Pleiotrophin (PTN) . Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then the mixture of substrate A and B is added to generate glow light emission kinetics. Upon plate development, the intensity of the emitted light is proportional to the Pleiotrophin (PTN) level in the sample or standard.
