Phospholipase A2, membrane associated is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PLA2G2A gene. It is mapped to 1p36.13. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the phospholipase A2 family (PLA2) . PLA2s constitute a diverse family of enzymes with respect to sequence, function, localization, and divalent cation requirements. This gene product belongs to group II, which contains secreted form of PLA2, an extracellular enzyme that has a low molecular mass and requires calcium ions for catalysis. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sn-2 fatty acid acyl ester bond of phosphoglycerides, releasing free fatty acids and lysophospholipids, and thought to participate in the regulation of the phospholipid metabolism in biomembranes. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5'UTRs have been found for this gene.

Aviva's human PLA2G2A ELISA Kit was based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for PLA2G2A has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards (Expression system for standard: sf21, Immunogen sequence: N21-C144) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for PLA2G2A is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB was used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The absorbance of yellow is proportional to the human Fibronectin amount of sample captured in plate.
