Bioactivity
Pimaric acid is a naturally occurring resin acid identified in species such as Aralia cordata and various pine trees. Pimaric acid exerts anticancer effects through induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress, activation of caspase-dependent apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and inhibition of cell migration in ovarian cancer cells. Additionally, pimaric acid suppresses mRNA expression, protein levels, and promoter activity of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in TNF-?-stimulated human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs), supporting its role in cancer and vascular research.
