4-Nitrophenyl ?-D-cellotrioside is a chromogenic substrate for endoglucanases and cellobiohydrolases. Hydrolysis of this substrate by these enzymes liberates 4-nitrophenol, which generates a yellow color that is measured by monitoring absorbance at 405 nm.
