5α-Hydroxy-6-keto cholesterol is a β-epoxide metabolite and cholesterol derivative produced in human bronchial epithelial cells (16-HBE) exposed to ozone. It inhibits cholesterol synthesis (IC50=350 nM) and exhibits cytotoxicity.
