Valnivudine, a precursor of CF-1743, is an orally effective and highly effective anti-herpes zoster (HZ) nucleoside analogue, a bicyclic nucleoside analogue (BCNA) . Valnivudine has antiviral activity and is highly inhibitory against varicella zoster virus (VZV) . Valnivudine is rapidly and widely converted into CF-1743 in the body.
