Tolmetin sodium dihydrate is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as an orally active cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor. Tolmetin sodium dihydrate demonstrates inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 0.35 ?M and 0.82 ?M for human COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, respectively, and is widely used as a reference compound for studying the biochemical and pharmacodynamic properties of NSAID-mediated prostaglandin synthesis inhibition.
