Swine CBG Recombinant Protein

CBG, Corticosteroid-binding globulin, is the non-inhibitory member of the serpin superfamily of serine protease inhibitors, SERPINA6. In plasma, glucocorticoids are mainly bound to CBG, and to a lesser extent, albumin. CBG carries the vast majority of cortisol being circulated and may be involved in gender differences observed in corticosteroids circulating levels. At sites of inflammation, neutrophil activation induces the neutrophil elastase cleavage of CGB which reduces its affinity for cortisol. The cleaved form of CBG releases most of the cortisol at sites of inflammation. Plasma CBG levels are therefore involved in the adaptive stress response and play a role in maintaining equilibrium between CBG-bound and unbound cortisol.
