Background

CCL24, also known as myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor 2 (MPIF-2) or eosinophil chemotactic protein 2 (eotaxin-2), belongs to the CC chemokine family. There are at least 27 distinct members of the C-C subgroup reported for mammals. They are characterized by two adjacent cysteines. CC chemokines induce the migration of monocytes and other cell types such as NK cells and dendritic cells. CCL24 interacts with chemokine receptor CCR3 to induce chemotaxis in eosinophils. It is also strongly chemotactic for resting T lymphocytes and slightly chemotactic for neutrophils.
