BCIP, toluidine (5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indoxyl phosphate, <i>p-</i>toluidine salt) is a widely used chromogenic phosphatase substrate, which forms a dark blue ( lambda;<sub>max</sub> 615 nm) precipitate on enzymatic hydrolysis.
