Growth factor that mediates its effects via EGFR, ERBB2 and ERBB4. Required for normal cardiac valve formation and normal heart function. Promotes smooth muscle cell proliferation. May be involved in macrophage-mediated cellular proliferation. It is mitogenic for fibroblasts, but not endothelial cells. It is able to bind EGF receptor/EGFR with higher affinity than EGF itself and is a far more potent mitogen for smooth muscle cells than EGF. Also acts as a diphtheria toxin receptor (By similarity) .

The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Heparin Binding Epidermal Growth Factor Like Growth Factor (HBEGF) . Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to Heparin Binding Epidermal Growth Factor Like Growth Factor (HBEGF) . Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then the mixture of substrate A and B is added to generate glow light emission kinetics. Upon plate development, the intensity of the emitted light is proportional to the Heparin Binding Epidermal Growth Factor Like Growth Factor (HBEGF) level in the sample or standard.
